Anyone running double blades to keep from having to double cut so much?

  • #2
One of my Z's is set up with doubles. It don't leave the shop without them !
I first learned about doubles from Erich "Elm" Erickson.

Here is his page about doubles: elmlawn site.com/double_blades.htm

I ran Walker 42" Mulch decks with double blades. Walker was the first Mower to offer double blades as a standard feature. I went from Bagging to double blade mulching and saw no real difference in the cut. For two years I mowed several yards with a GHS Bagger model and a Mulching Deck and the customer never knew they weren't being bagged.

PS Sometimes 3 cuts aren't enough if the grass is high.

Ok, I just went to the site. How the hell are you supposed to put double blades on a rig. I've got a new 560 and I was out at my parents place yesterday playing with it and I think double blades are the way to go.

I did not put it up as a link.
On this site you can't have "lawn & site" together.

              A new 560 what ?

I ran double blades on my dixie chopper for one day and will not do so again. Seemed to slow down the blade speed, had to slow down some.

Are the double blades for mulching leaves mostly? I am not sure what exactly they are to be used for? Just didn't cut as well with two blades.

I Hope Someone Can Answer This Truthfully.........

has anybody ever bought a new mower with double blades on it? my thought would be, and in my case, if eXmark wanted the mower to have double blades, then it would be delivered with double blades. i don't run them and never will.

If two are good, wouldn't three be better? But when is enough enough? For me one blade per spindle works best. I see no reason to waste resources and mount additional blades.

I think Gravely comes with the bracket for double blades.

nothing wrong with running doubles. I run them when the leaves are heavy or I'm in some overgrown stuff.
Watch how you're mowing now with singles then run doubles for a week and tell us if there's a difference (if you're still around since this was started in April)

Steve/Eminem just aren't open to anything they know nothing about, so they buck the system whenever they can. Plus they just like to see their posts and name in lights.
