Geeze Sporty, you treat mowing as a sport (ha ha....sporty....sport of mowing)...not a business...more like a hobby if you ask me. Who will set you straight? Dare I ask, what is your time worth to you?
you are mistaken IMO mm. when i give an estimate i look at the lawn, walk around, etc. i then give a price. this price is based on string trimming, mowing with the 52" mower and blowing off the walk ways and drive way. if (haven't had it happen yet) a client would tell them they want it push mowed and the yard was a normal average side yard my price will remain the same. if it's a larger size then either the price goes up or i say goodbye.

You should re-think this policy you are selling time. So why would you give it away?

No....I'm not mistaken. I understand what you're saying....and I'm just saying your dumb. You never did say if you value your time or not. I can only assume you don't since in this business you're selling time. So why push mow a lawn and base the mowing rate off using a 52" mower? That's just stupid.....dumb.....retarded. I have a lawn where the price doubled because the dude wanted me to only use the 21" mower. Why? Because it takes more time. Why tie up my time behind a push mower getting paid the less per minute when I could be spending that time making more on a ZTR? Have your buddy whack your head with a baseball bat....it all might sink in. Quit kissing azz and get serious.

This goes along the lines of, "are you still unbolting your mulching kit so you can bag that one lawn per week?"

i would appreciate it if you would keep those kind of comments to yourself MM. that doesn't help me at all. it just makes me think how much of an @sshole you are.

i value my time just like anyone values there time. but when giving estimates time is only part of the factor for me. i can have 2 $30 yards where one takes 30 min. to knock out and the other one might take 45 min. to knock out.

for as much as your guys pick on me about how i do things i seem to be doing quiet well at my business. i'm mowing 8-10 yards a day, 4-5 days a week. i get 2-3 calls a day for other services as well.

so answer me this, if i'm doing things stupid, dumb or wrong, how come i'm doing pretty darn good???

sporty, a 30 minute yard and a 45 minute yard are two different animals. charge them like two different animals. yards that take me 30 solo are $37 to $43 and yards that take me 45 solo are from $47 to $52. those are my four prices this year and i have one $60 in the mix. you are selling time plus cost. get a grip on it. 15 minutes is a big deal over a season in gas and your wages.

really this whole discussion IMO is kind of stupid. i don't have clients that request i use a push mower and more than likely i would not take someone that would.

i think i use a diff. system to charge my mowing than most people do. i don't really look at a yard and say that will take me 30 min. to mow. sure i can judge most yards and how long it will take me but thats not really what i use to decide the price. i just use the size. i know how big my $30 yards look and if i'm looking at a yard of around the same size it's probably gonna be $30. unless there's a sheot load of trimming and a lot of stuff to mow around. which yes i know that statement right there indicates time. but that is not my sole factor in deciding price. i don't use a sheot load of numbers like you do steve-o

next year i'll have new #'s. the more i learn, the more my #'s change. #'s are everything in this business. you start using #'s and maybe you won't have to work at the carwash in the winter time.
