  • What's Wrong With These Folks??????

i did 2nd round pre-em apps yesterday in and on and off light drizzle. i'm guessing that between friday and monday morning we had at least 4" of rain with most of that sunday evening. so i'm at this one yard who i mow on thursday and the lady comes out while i'm blowing the hard surfaces off and tells me she is sorry for running her sprinklers the day of her mow and that she didn't know i was coming early. i told her this was an application and then asked her why in the hell would you run your sprinkler after all this rain. she ain't the only one either. duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

the ones that have rain sensors claim they ain't worth a $ h i t. i have no idea. educate me on rain sensors by starting a thread on them explaining how they work such as installing and placement or whatever you do.

it doesn't surprise me. in my neck of the woods you'll see sprinklers running for a good hour or 2 IN the rain.

Even you are smart enough to install a Rain sensor. Biggest problem is running the wire through the wall. If you are lucky you can fish it beside other irrigation wires. Two screws attaches the Sensor to Fascia board. Run the wire to the controller box NEEDLY. Most Controllers will have a Rain sensor connection point. But if there is no connection points you just wire it into the Common line. Disconnect the common wire and attach one of the two rain sensor wires the the Common terminal. The other wire is connected to the common wire you just took off the terminal. Rain sensors only interrupts the electric signal to the Solenoids when it has rain water in it.

Do you think Steve O would spend the money to buy a wireless sensor???

BTW There are now remotes for controller boxes also. Hunter sells them for their Pro C controller. They are for the irrigation tech to check the system without running back and forward to the controller to check each zone. There are also wireless solenoids.

the wired units have their place.

I just installed a system; controller in the garage, vlv box out back near the pump house. The homeowner, snooty type, wanted the controller in the garage but didn't want a 2nd little box on her precious wall, so I did like Ric explained earlier; spliced in at the vlv box and hung it on the pump house. Can't do that with a wireless.

                Ric,
actually that remote you're talking about works on their SRCs, PRO-Cs and ICC boxes. Sweet setup if you maintain a large property with multiple controllers, or even a single controller. No fumbling around looking for keys to unlock boxes, no running back and forth the controller, no need for a 2nd person to stand at the box surfing through zones while you do a walk-around.

The remote also cost a lot more than a ICC 800SS controller. But I haven't been licensed in irrigation for 4 years. The fact is I never did any real irrigation work, I only sat for the Block Test and got the license. I had a Guy that forgot more about irrigation than most will ever know, But he couldn't pass the Law part of the Block test.

I have a good friend that is/was certified with a CID by the IA. They're good people to know if you have a huge project coming up and need some credentials to bypass the local building authorities.

Yes the old Rent A License thing, I have a couple of guys after me to reactivate my Irrigation License. After some deep thinking, I decided Rent A License is not my style. There is this thing called Liability that could bite me in the Azz.

U.M. stands for Unique Members. GRassmaster no longer lets me use the other term. But as a S.B.M. I am sure networking with others to do your irrigation leaves you more time for tipping the Brew.
