  • How to deal with these people

I put in a bid on a hotel some time back and the owner, a middle eastern guy, gave the look like I just insulted ahlah and said I was way too high and started to tell me how the guy last year did it for $100.00 dollars a week and kept going on and on wanting to negotiate price and telling me he would let me do it for $125.00. I told him to call his previous guy back. Needless to say two weeks later he calls and says he wants my rock bottom price and would like to meet with me again. Other than Steve-O, how would you wise guys approach this?

Ain't worth the time....you don't need anybody to tell you that. What's your gut instinct say? I suspect you're weary if you've posted your thoughts on here. You got better things to do than play cat and mouse games with them foreign hotel managers...............like posting pictures of exhaust scorched shrubbery.

        Dealing with them.

I quit dealing with them all together. Tired of them trying to beat you down on price. Then they stall/refuse to pay as long as possible.

Have NEVER had good experience with them as a customer, or staying at at a place they run. I quit staying at motel they run 5 years ago.

The way to end all the BS is to demand payment in advance at the first of the month.

And no checks also. Tell him you want the cash from the drawer.

Plus now is not the time to take on any monthlys when the rainy season is just starting. Most likley he will cancel in November. Make him pay for the job ala carte and start taking payments in January.

Well, I guess it depends on how far off your price was. Were you at $250 or were you at $135?

Raise your price 20.00 and tell him that is your new rock bottom price. I wouldn't take the job myself. He will be a pain for the whole season. Your 200.00 to his 125.00 offer isn't in the same ball park.

It ain't just the dot head MFs who are like this since they come in all races.

I was out problem solving for a customer who was expecting more from her yard than Mother Nature was willing to dole out so early in the season. A neighbor saw my spray truck and came over to ask me for a card and wanted to know what I would charge to spray Himalayan Blackberries. I told him that now isn't the time to spray and why. He didn't want to wait and I told him that I could take his money but that he wouldn't get results. The earliest he could do it was July 1st and it would probably take 2 sprays. The best time to spray H.blackberries is fall.

This white guy wants a "ballpark estimate" sight unseen and discribes the mess was overtaking a small metal building the size of the house I was standing next to which was probably around 2500sf. I hate ballpark estimates sight unseen, but what the heck, so i say $200-$300.00 + tax. The guy starts doing price objection and says that the last time he did it, he only paid $120.

So what!. I haven't even looked at the site to ascertain how much effort and finished product it will take to accomplish to shoot it; how deep the creeping crud is, etc. The guy is fishing and I don't grovel to get jobs.
