  • Customers don't care about the grass

For all the talk on here about the perfect height, perfect cut, best deck design, etc, etc, etc. Most ( so don't post any crap about the one guy whochecks his height with a ruler) high end customers don't really care. If the grass is cut and the grass is green and weed free they are happy with the grass.

    Do you disagree????

Then you don't do full service maintenance and you don't work on high end properties.

What then do they care about??

    - Why does Mr Jones have new seasonal color and I still have my winter pansies
    - Why did you only plant those boring begonias
    - Why don't I have new mulch
    - Why do my topiaries look like crap, can't you prune them.
    - why are there weeds in my beds
    - Can't you add more color to my yard.
    - Why is my sprinkler system not working right, you're supposed to handle that
    - I have a party on the 15th, we need more planters and flowers before then, please take care of that.
    - Don't ask me about pruning the trees to get more light on the lawn, just do it.
    - 4 of those 25 azaleas don't look as good as the others, please get me some new ones.

High end customers look at their landscape as a whole , and are much more concerned about everything else except the grass. They don't give a rats ass if the grass is cut @ 3.5", 3.75", 4". 4.25". They don't care if the reel mowed bermuda is scalped in a few places. But you damn well better have the seasonal color perfect and the shrubs healthy and pruned.

You may not agree with this analysis and that's fine but I have many more important concerns than the grass.

I have to disagree. With so many different personalities you could have a husband concerned with how the grass looks in the front yard and a flowerbed on the side, while the wife only wants to be sure you blow off the driveway and sidewalk. Who knows what the guy next door has on his mind. The one common thread I've found is service. Most people get used to seeing you on the same day of the week at about the same time of day. And I think this is important and professional. This gives you an instant bad weather excuse if it's raining at your usual time. If they only know you'll be there at the end of the week, say thursday or friday and it starts raining right before you get there you have to make an effort to call to tell them when you'll be back. Good service sells.

And most could care less about fertilizer, just as long as they ain't got any weeds.
