  • vinegar and backpack sprayer (fix) anyone?

i've looked in the backpack sprayers and also in vinegar.i couldn't seem to come up with an answer to my problem.the first backpack sprayer,i used with vinegar and then went to use again in a couple of weeks, there was no compression the vinegar mauled the valve seal like a gummy bear.the next backpack sprayer i used vinegar and then washed out with water, added water, compressed the sprayer and cleared out the sprayer wand.emptied water, let it dry. a week later i go to use it and again no compression.
i now know there are proper backpacks for this.trying to order parts, doesn't seem to make sense, since i would be using vinegar again. a $300.00 sprayer is not doable just yet.
my question is:can you use an automotive gasket maker in a tube to seal where the suspected leak may be since it is chemically resistant.or has anyone ever repaired a backpack sprayer by the seat of their pants?

    thanks,

    ed t.

Why isn't this in the pesticide forum?

Hmm, vinegar eh? Are you a licensed pesticide applicator? If not, do you believe you can dodge the law by using vinegar? And if so, this is what you get for doing so. :alien::alien::alien:

      vinegar as weed control

was looking for a suggestion for a fix.
here in ontario,canada..legislation has been passed that most commercial pesticides and herbicides are banned.you need to have a pesticide applicators license to use any federal listed product.as an example, vinegar is only considered as a pesticide, herbicide if it has a 20% acetic acid content, below that percentage you do not need a pesticide license to spray.i do have a pesticide technicians license.
vinegar is about the only solution that is available in ontario to control weeds.vinegar is used almost exclusively by municipalities in ontario.i mix it with salt,it dehydrates the plant material and the salt makes the ground underneath sterile.there are specific applications for this procedure and do not you spray your lawn or any beds with this.store vinegar is 5% acetic acid, pickling vinegar is 7% and double strength is 10%,available at your grocery store.
fiesta, has just recently been introduced, but i suspect that will be banned soon and it only controls 13 weeds."definition of a weed is, any plant material that you do not want to grow in a specific location"

a fix sugestion would be welcome.

as far as fix is concerned the only things i could suggest is to either buy that fancy 300.00 sprayer you mentioned or maybe find out what the seals are made out of in the exspensive unit and then buy a small sheet of the material at the proper thickness and cut out your own to replace the inferior sprayers seals.

whatever the material may be i am certain you should be able to find it somewhere and get a couple of good exacto knives and some good conditioned gaskets to copy and your in business.

backpack sprayers are meant to break down?

read the fine frint and it will tell you what you can spray with your sprayer.it should also tell you how to maintain your sprayer.it troubles me when they include a repair kit with the backpack sprayer.the one thing they don't include though is the valve seat, an essential component
it also bugs me,that if your about to spray and have your solution in the sprayer, and then there is no compression.got to leave the job site and find a sprayer to finish so you can get paid.
the ones that they are touting for corrosive or acid materials are the sp2 backpack sprayer and other sprayers but with the viton seals.
viton search yielded an automotive gasket parts manufacturer.if i remember it was a dupont brand.for me i picked up a little 2 gallon hand held unit on kiji this past weekend [viton seals].it'll do me for now.
