  • Z5035 Double Blades

What do I need to purchase in order to put double blades on my Z5035 Timecutter Z?

Any recommendations for the 2nd set of blades? The first set will be stock – still in very good shape.

I only cut my lawn (1.5 acres) when dry. I’m very picky about the quality of cut, so I go fairly slow when mowing. Otherwise, every so often, a blade/weed doesn’t get cut to the correct height and sticks out like a sore thumb. I’m thinking that changing to a double blade setup will allow me to mow at a faster forward speed and maintain a high-quality cut.

The mower has a 24 hp Kawasaki engine.

    Thanks,

    Rob

Making sure that your blades are sharp will make a huge difference in what does and does not get cut. Having said that, with some mowers a slow ground speed can lead to stragglers not getting cut. I didnt make that up, its in my owners manual...

A double blade set up really wouldnt be the answer here. Double blades for mulching can be an asset tho, assuming that your side discharging when you mow.

I would check that the deck is clean of all trash as it does affect the vacuum the blades create and keeping the blades sharp. These two things will allow you to mow faster and maintain a nice cut.

Running doubles puts an added load on your clutch. You might consult with your dealer or check your owners manual first.

I don't think the spindles will hold up very long due to the additional torque factor and weight. Homeowner equipment isn't made for running doubles. Keep your blades sharp.
