  • Buying Existing Business

I am looking at an existing lawn care business for sale. There are one year contracts that represent 60% of the business. The remaining 40% are no contracts. How would the established business people on this website put a price on this business, excluding equipment?

We normally offer between 1/2 to 1 months mowing for yards. However we have found that if you do good work and are an established lawn service a lot of these people will call you for prices if their regular person quits. So you have to decide whether it is important to you to pay or just wait to see what comes your way.

Just the accounts or are you getting any equipment with the deal? Never mind I just saw that the equipment was EXCLUDED.

Not sure about putting a price on the business, but evaluate how solid those contracts are...is there any risk that you could lose these accounts during the transition? If so, be sure you're ready to mitigate this risk when the time comes.

Buy a business that gives you a chance to leverage those skills. Make a list of what you bring to the table. Once you buy a good existing business you will hit the ground running and have a foundation in place from which you can really grow the company. Buying the perfect business starts with choosing the right type of business for you.
