then a new filter every 500 hours is it.
Holy ****. 500 hours? Even with canister type filters that seems extreme to me. Dirt is your #1 enemy. If you're blowing these things out every day then you're more likely than not beating up the filter element with the air. The longest I let the inner & outer filter go on my canister filters is 300 hours max (I never attempt to clean these things out, just trash and replace em). All other cheapies get replaced much more frequently with the pre-filters cleaned and re-oiled as deemed necessary.

All of my units have the donaldson canisters with dual elements . It is a no throttle air pressure, it blows all loose items out of the canister then they pull the paper filter and simply bump it into their hand 6 or so time while the throttling blower mows the dust. As for as the filter becoming beat up, they look brand new. but as you said its the lifeline of your engine so at about 500 hours we replace the inner and outer filter. Understand this is generally by june that they get the new filters, which is when it gets dusty here.

"This has also been substantiated in testing conducted by Ford Motor Co. and ConocoPhillips, and reported in SAE Technical Paper 2003-01-3119. What this means is that compulsive oil changers are actually causing more engine wear than the people who let their engine's oil get some age on it."
Mastermower, thanks for the link. Funny thing, my Ford dealer sends me coupons for 3,000 mile oil changes! 90% of my driving is stop and go and in town which constitutes severe service so I may keep things as they are.

Have you guys heard that K & N filters makes washable air filters for the donaldson systems? I am going to get one for a 23hp kawi.

Not sure about the K&N but I will assume using them would void all warranties from the engine manufacture if its not OEM speced and accepted.??

Have no idea about that. None of my machines are under warranty anyway so that is not a problem. They are available from Stens.

mine are wore out by the end of the warranty and replaced shortly there after so dont make sense to change them out to higher cost filters
