  • Good News----bad News

The good news: looks like a banner year. We are getting calls everyday about work. Rain today and looks like the rest of the week could be the same. So we are getting plenty of moisture unlike last year.

The bad news: Rain today so went around and looked at our yards. EVERYONE of them needs mowing. We are already behind and we haven't even started the year yet. About a month early for Bermuda.

As the wise say, never rely on snow removal to pay the bills in winter!!!

It was the Japan earthquake that shifted the earth on it's axis, or maybe it was Obama's doing, I dunno. Regardless, something is messed up with the weather. The last two summers have been hot and dry here. Last year was the worst I've ever experienced. Then to follow, we had a winter with warmer than average temps and no decent snows. I think we had 1.5 snow events we made any money off it. Half of one because one side of town received enough snow, the other didn't. But then the previous winter I was so damn busy with the snow, the best snow season I have ever experienced. :alien::alien::alien:

Now to follow an odd winter we're experiencing a spring which is at least 2 weeks ahead of what we're used to at this point in the year. Since Sunday night it's been near constant rain. Lawns need regular mowing now which usually doesn't happen until the 2nd week of April. Winter weeds in lawns are abundant mainly due to the mild winter. It's very odd, we're in for some kinda crap this summer. I expect lots of money to be made on insect control though - they'll be bad this year!

Only a fool would expect a normal summer at this rate. I can only hope for a cool and wet summer, at least that's not normal. I'd rather be behind in mowing than not have anything to mow. We seem to keep hiring more and more help, so we definitely need to keep the billable work flowing! :alien::alien::alien:

I got 2 calls this week, mowing tomorrow, neither get app's from other companies (I dont do them) so I suspect I will mow my but off and then wither in July and August, I need to check out Europe for the past few years since we have their jet stream to figure out what I may anticipate.

Bugs will be bad for one thing. Already have mosquitos in Chicago region. Orchestes alni are bad again after a couple years of what like seemed like lower numbers. Never have I seen them this early. Your two weeks ahead....we seem closer to four. The two which is normal for our difference in latitude and two more because we never hit full on winter here temperature wise. Very mild.
