  • Business Status/Growth Survey

This is my first season in the business; started late Feb of this year. I just want to know what I can expect... :

    1. How long have you been in business?

    2. How many employees do you have?

    3. Where are you located?

    4. How long did it take you to earn a living (whatever that means ) in this business?

    5. If you had to do it over again, what would you change (do or not do) that would have made a difference in your success?

    6. What advice do you have for someone just starting out?

    Thanks for the input!

I am located in Cincinnati and this is my second year of business. My brother and i started together, but currently i am on my own. I had a late start my first year and barley scratched out enough to pay the bills. This year ive had much more successs and am picking up about 1-2 more clients per week. Pretty soon i will have to hire some freinds on a part time basis. I am earning as much per month now as i was working my previous $13/hour full time job. i know its not much now, but i am growing and i certianly enjoy working for myself. We were lucky enough to have the cash to pay for all our equipment up front, and we went all out with new exmark walk behinds and z's. but if i had to do it over agian, i would get the business first and let that dictate the equipment and how much you buy. Take a good look at used equipment, if you know what to look for you can save thousands. Other peice of advice is to do things legit, get insurance, state licenses, etc. It looks good when you advertise and helps to get the word around. Around here there are a lot of lco's that are kind of shady, so looking professional is a must. Just some advice. thanks, good luck.
