How far will a bale of pine needles go. I have never really spread it but am looking at a job that requires it.

You can ask your supplier and they should be able to tell you how many square feet at what depth/thickness you want are in a bale. If I have questions the nursery that I deal with here will assist me and also cut me a deal on the materials.

i just finished a job where i used pine needles. are you putting them on this area for the first time? or adding to an existing bed?

if you are starting on dirt you will use more than you do when adding to......

how many you will need is relative to the type of coverage you want. if you want them thick and fluffy you will be able to cover about 20 sq feet per bale.

my advice would be to buy one bale and shake it out somewhere so that you see first hand what you are up against.

      good luck

heres a little trick i use to put down pinestraw when its hot. i cut the tor end out of a sock and use it as a sleeve to keep my arm from getting pricked, i only use it on one arm, it may look goofy but it works.

Does using pine straw as mulch add acid to your soil? I've never seen anyone use pine needles as mulch but I know not much grows where the pine needles are on the ground. just wondering
