  • Making a Toro wb mulch?

I have a 10 year old Toro 36" wb with a floating deck (runs and looks great!). How can I turn this deck into a mulcher?

Use thick sheet metal to create some baffles under it and get some gator blades

Where do the baffles go and what shape?

That is one of many problems with the Toro 36" floater. No mulch kit avail.. I tried bolting discharge cover on but without chamber baffles it does a poor job & kicks up alot of dust. The only other option is to have a welder fabricate you chamber baffles. Many other Manufacturers, such as eXmark, have true mulch kits avail. for all deck sizes. Toro needs to get on the ball.

Leave that sweet machine the way it is!!! You have a classic. Our oldest Toro is the same one you have, but 11 years old. Runs perfect, looks good, never had a problem with that machine. Probably got 8000 hours on it!! Heck, I think it gets an oil change once a year (if that). It just keeps going and going!

Don't mess with it!! If anything, put on Gators.

            Hey, guys,

I used some flexible edging, the old terracotta color, to block the chute for a test like you did, George, and same thing. Lots of dust kicked up. Interesting how well it did, considering. The local shop said $1000 for a new mulching deck, if they are available. Lots of money. . . Toro does need to get on the ball. Erich, you're the man! Leave it the way it is is a gooood idea. I bought ours in 1987 and so far, one blade belt, foamed all four tires, two bags, one set of engine gaskets and a carb. Starts on the first pull every time, really! Maybe after a few accounts it'll be Walker time. What do you think about the Walkers? They are popular here in Sacramento, CA.

Unfortunately using Gators, as Mr. Skaper suggested, doesn't keep grass out of beds or off hard surfaces & cannot compare in leaf season to a true mulch kit. The Toro 36" is a bush hog specialty mower, suited primarily to spring cutting.

I wanted to update any of you who have been following this thread. I called Toro earlier this week looking for a mulching accessory for my 1987 Toro 36 wb floater. They said one IS made for this deck and recommended a couple of local dealers. I previously talked with a 3rd dealer who said I would have to buy a new deck because the older deck would only side discharge. Well, one of the two recommended dealers I called contacted Toro, got a part number, called me and said he had 5 of these recycler kits in stock. Yesterday I bought one, installed it and mowed an overseeded lawn for the first time. I could not believe how GOOD this lawn looked and how SMALL the clippings were! And, I was able to use the Gator blades I already had! Saved LOTS of money and time!!! The kit was only $150 compared to a new deck at $1100. I hope this helps some of you in considering older equipment.

DELTA, the kit was for a 36" Proline midsize floating deck. I'm not sure if they still make them. Best Regards!

Why do you need to make it mulch, that slows you down and is unnecessary.

Bobby_D, I save time and money by not bagging or hauling clippings. I've found that the cut speed is the same providing that the blades are sharp. No bag, so, I can trim on the right or left. Same quality cut. Also, less fertilizer and better for the environment and my pocket book for dump fees. You know, the grasscycling thing. Are your customers into grasscycling?

                            e-mail me the part #.

I've been after Toro for 2 yrs. looking for a kit for my '99 & 2001 36" floaters. According to Toro they don't exist. Send me the dealers # as well in case it's an out of production item.

                            Thanks

Sorry for the dig connecting you with George. It's just that you two sound very much alike, so, . . .

BTW, the p/n's are in the mail, e-mail that is.

                              Best Regards,
