First time poster here. Just need some advice. Borrowed a viper 60" the other day from a buddy to cut my 1 acre yard. Finished in 30 minutes.....I WAS AMAZED. Usually takes me 3 hours with my 20 year old lawn boy two stroke push! Now I must have a zero turn mower. I am hooked. Saw the scag website was running the tiger cub for $5999. This looks like a nice machine. 48" inch deck with a kaw. 19 on it. Not too big or too small. Also have the chance to mow 3-4 more lawns (smallest is one acre) to help justify and pay for the scag. Just looking for someone's adivce here and also what they payed for their mower with the features of the tiger cub. THANKS!

Cleaning deck and changing blades
I take mine to a buddy who has a car tire dealership. He uses a car floor jack and impack wrench. It takes him around five minutes if that. As for cleaning take it to the local car wash. Just keep your spindles greased. In the field I carry a 4" puddy knife or a dog leg shaped stick. And this may sound crazy, after I get the underdeck clean and dry. I spray some pam under the deck, you will be amazed how good it works. I picked up a case of grill pam at a yard sale, cheap. Depends how much elbow grease you want to spend on cleaning it. My Scag 48" cut's great especially when the under deck is cleaned and the blades and sharp. I change them weekly and clean underdeck daily. Part of it.
Hope this helps,
Mark

Gentry,
You're not crazy, we us Pam too!
I thought we were crazy. I'm wondering if it's just our crazy Idiana weather that is making it hard to keep the mower clean this year. We have only had a handful of days that we reached 70. It's just cool and wet here. Not raining hard, just drizzling for days on end. My husband is obsessive about keeping that mower clean. He washed it off in the yard every day when we're done mowing. He's scraping the deck and sharpening blades about twice a week.
My husband likes the idea of the trailer gate. I told him what you guys said about that and he just smiled. One of those, "Why didn't I think of that?" smiles. We can't afford to buy any fancy items for deck cleaning right now, so we'll have to make do.
What are you guys using for baggers on your Scags? We have a grass gobbler, but it's not great. We want to buy the big bagging system if it's worth it. He also REALLY wants a striping kit.
