  • Your own Yard

    Hello All,
Just curious, how well maintained is your own yard? I like to do my own yard, though sometimes have a hard time finding the time.
    Regards,

In the begging and end of hte years i often find my yard about 5x too long, but its green throughout the year - if that counts for anything.

      My yard

I make sure mine looks llike a million bucks. People see that and figure theirs can look like that too and stop for an estimate. Just count it as advertising.

Same as br549oicu8. I mow, edge, and clean up every 5 days give or take. Same as with my landscaping...I keep it looking as perfect as possible.

You bet it does. Especially if you park your truck with your company name on it in your driveway! Just as when you are servicing a lawn and people drive by and see your work. You want it to look good when you are not there when they drive by again. It looks good on you if your lawn looks like those in magazines...or something close at least!

I don't have 1 account that is near my house, but I tell people who I am selling the whole package to, they can take a ride past it anytime to see what I can do for the lawn, however the landscape is not up to my par, it's not completed. I tell them I have not had the time to finish landscaping . Honesty pays off for both of us.

My lawn is one of the best lawns around for having a dog and kids playin in it to boot.

Mine is not as good as it should be but I have a building project going on so with concrete trucks, dumptrucks and lumber trucks going through every week I am going to wait until the project is done then relandscape it.

I agree... I live in a nice subdivision and do not have a shop other than my garage. I am just starting but know as a consumer I notice those things. This is down the street a bit. i saw them put in a nice sign saying landscaping. They then planted two nice big beautiful palm trees behind the sign. One month later the sign is half torn and the trees are as dead as can be. I then notice the grass is about 2 and a half feet high and a guy is mowing it with a residential mower. I mean I was like um, These guys want me to pay them to plant and kill my trees. Palm trees live thru everything and these guys killed two that were so perfect. Well, needless to say I saw it and said omg I have to start my own service and protect people from them... I thought about taking a picture ofr these local guys homes and shops etc when they are there or when they arent so that people can see who they really are as a selling point. I know if I took this pic and one of mine and showed them it they would probably pick me over them...

I keep my lawn and landscaping at my house looking perfect. I have customers that live close to me and deliver their payment to me personally to avoid using a stamp. Wouldn't want them to see my yard looking neglected. If you put your adress on your invoices you can expect people to drive by to look at your own yard. Also I see mowing and landscaping my own yard as a chance to show off some of my companies work and, what better place to do that then your own yard.

Mine is the best looking yard around.
I cut the grass of my neighbors too,They know that is time to cut it when I cut mine first, I know they compare and realize they need a cut.

Mine is always last to be cut....very last. Looks pretty rough many times goes for over 2 weeks. The good thing is that no one around really knows I run the biz. I have actually considered hiring another company to cut it for me.

But I am so particular about the way my employees treat all of our other accounts! Go figure.

My dad and I have a chance to showcase our businesses together next week during a "development business & neighbor tour" He does remodeling. I will be religiously maintaining the lawn. We just moved in and it has dormant patches, oh well. Anyway I'll be showing off my new w/b and other equipment, along with a freshly cut lawn done up right! My dad and I plan to have drawings for free lawn mowings and labor. People will be thoroughly impressed with the clean job on our yard which will speak VOLUMES FOR ME!!

I'm finding out that IMAGE IS EVERYTHING in this business!

I finish cut 9 acres or at least try to. It is more like cutting on a rotation basis first week, front,.. second week, sides and some of the back..third week, front again...fourth week, front back and raise the deck for the back forty.

When the daylight starts getting shorter this schedule will never works thats when the wife starts cutting.

Then some time in Nov. one real good cut for the year.

                              I hate big yards.
