    Hello All,

What are some tips that you can give to someone who is getting into the busines? I am currently getting equipment and tryng to get as much advise as possible, I have friends in the busines and the advice seems to be to either buy someone elses business instead of starting with 0 accounts or to work with a business to gain experience before starting my busines. I have mowed lawns in the past but nothing commercial or for a busines.

Your best best is to just start your own!!
Residential accounts are a dime a dozen to start out with, then you can move on to commercial accounts.
Don't waist your time making someone else money. Keep reading these posts and you'll learn a lot!

          Welcome

My advise is the same, jump in and find some residentials and start building.
Be very careful about doing business as your friends do business. You need to find your own place in the business. You might excell at something that they would not have concidered.
Also be careful about advise from others that you will be in direct competition with now. I do not want to even imply that your friend might be giving you bogus info, however the advise that they give is going to be filtered thru their own experiences which might be good or bad.
As far as advise this forum has been the wealth of info. that I needed to get me started.

          Best of luck to you!

            Another Rookie

This forum has been an answer to prayer. I too am in the beginning stages of starting my business. I stumbled across this site one day when I was doing some research and I have tuned in daily since then. I have learned so much from this site and from all the information that is out there on the web. I am going to continue to research, plan and learn for the rest of this summer and then start part time next Spring. If the good Lord is willing I hope to be in the business full time by Spring of 2005. I currently work in the Aerospace Industry which here lateley is not too secure. So I began looking at business opportunities and decided to turn something I have a passion for into a way of making an income. I can't wait to become an independent business man. But enough of my bio I do have a question for anyone out there.

My question is, since I became serious about this business, I started paying close attention to who my competition would be around town. There are a couple of large scale operations in town, but there are allot of smaller guys. It seems everyday I see a new truck & trailer on the road! The town I live in has about 60k - 75k in it, with smaller neighboring towns of about 20k. I am located in the middle Georgia area, which is one of the wealthiest areas of Georgia, besides the Atlanta area. Should I be worried that there is so much competition out there or is that a good sign that there is plently work out there to be had?

I agree with grassmaster wholeheartedly!! I found this forum a week ago and check into it every other day. I take notes on what I see that will help me improve my business. This has been my first year in business and this website is a lifesaver.

Thanks all you goodhearted pros giving us newbies advice!
