  • drive time

I am doing a big clean up job right now. I am charging the lady per hour. Do I Charge her for drive time? Like going to the yard debris place or to go get bark?
    Thank You, Jason

Yes, all time needs to be recovered that you spent on any job. Especially drive time. The wear and tear on the truck and fuel. It all needs to be figured into hourly charges.

If you have employees, you need to figure drive time as well. And it must be figured at the same rate that the rest of the day is billed out as. I doubt your employees will charge you less per hour because they are driving the trucks. Know what I mean?

    All time must be covered.

Yeah totally! If you don't take all this into account and then put some extra for a profit in there, at the end of the month you will be wondering why there is more going out than coming in.
Santa if you are listening I want a Super Lawn Truck fully tricked out with my company logo on the sides. Two Lazer Z XP's. Palm software for my Gopher 2003. And two reliable employees :-) Thats all!

Factoring in drive time is especially important if you are running cabovers with inneficient loading procedures.

Thank you for all the info. I will now have something to tell the home owner if she complains about paying drive time.

Say what? Did that make any sence to anyone?

In your hourly rate you should factor your winshield time, also in the products you apply you should factor in the time to pick them up or delivery fees into the mark up on them.

A profit should be figured into your hourly rate also.

If not you are not running a profitable business.

This is why you mark up materials, this is why your hourly rate is not what you are paying your labor.
