A dull cut and drought conditions is a good opening for disease and insect attack also! I Keep mine sharp all the time.

Lots of rain lately. Was dry for about 10 days prior. Cutting everyone. Lots of my customers have sprinkler systems or water it themselves.

Convince them to put on fertilizer, then they have to water it to get their money's worth.

          Malarky!

Do insects only attack ragged tipped grass plants?

Cut a piece of celery with a sharp blade & you will see the potential for more water loss & less water retention than if the stalk was cut with a dull blade.

In times of severe drought I reduce the sharpening sched. to 30-40hrs & we are able to keep many our unirrigated accounts greener longer.

If you cut youself, a sharp knife bleeds more than a tear.

This is a fact. Rough edges coagulate faster.
