  • How do you edge pavement?

with a trimmer? how often? A lot of yards I take on have grass growing up to a foot or more on top of pavement, where no one has tried to keep it in it's place. I trim back 2-4" evey few weeks and maybe spray roundup till I find edge then use trimmer every few weeks to keep it square. I also spay cracks every few months to keep grass down.

All concrete gets edges with a line trimmer.

If it real bad the first time, I have em use the edger.

Blacktop is a different story, the situation dictates the edge, some blacktop gets a 90* then a bevel trim, makes for a real clean looking edge.

Brick gets done same as blacktop.

If it's that bad, the first time I will charge just for the clean up of the edge.

I edge basically the same as Lawngodfather with the exception of I usually edge all concrete areas with an edger.

Same as the Godfather. When I'm cleaning up a neglected drive I put a guy with a back pack blower with the trimmer. The blower will stand up the stuff creeping on the pavement and cleans up as you go.

I use my power edger every time without fail. Once you have a nice edge you can do it quickly, and you don't risk the chance of accidentally scalping when using a line trimmer sideways.

I also learned the hard way to charge for overgrown edge the first time. I used to clean it up (no matter how bad) the first time to make a good impression until this one account I got (a good friends in-laws) had the edge overgrown about 6 inches on the sidewalk. It was a corner lot, and I spent about 1 1/2 hours cleaning it up, but it looked mint when I was done.

Next thing you know, they dropped me because thier neighbor gave them a riding lawn mower. Lame.

I always use a hard-blade edger - either wheeled or stick edger - unless the grass is at least an inch below the concrete.

After I have an established edge I've just started edgeing from the grass side, not from the concrete. It allows me to have a beveled edge without having to go over it twice.

What do ya mean by beveled edge?

Do you guys use a hard edger to create a 90 degree edge on the concrete, then go back with a string trimmer to cut the tips of grass blades on edge to create some sort of height bevel versus the height of rest of lawn?

                  Thanks
