  • Is Now The Time To Buy?

Now that the season is coming to an end at least for me in Union County New Jersey will I find some great deals on mowers, whackers, trailors etc? The only pice of equipment I have looked into is a trailor. Will the prices on blowers etc be discounted and reduced.

There are two schools of thought on this. Right now, there are very attractive incentives (via Sheffield Financial) to purchase mowers. No money down, no payments till April, no interest until March. However, in some areas, if you buy this equipment now, it will have little use between now and then. You are also getting the 2002 models that have not sold yet and the dealers are trying to move them off of the showroom floor to make room for the 2003 models.

I have heard that there are also deals to be had in the Spring when the new models are introduced. Some dealers will have "field days" to demo new equipment and possibly have introductory pricing. At that time, you would be buying a mower at the time you would use it and it would start paying for itself immediately.

If you are looking into the used market, there will probably be some deals starting now through January or February. People realize when doing a year end review or taxes that they are not making it in the business and will start selling off equipment. Sorry to say, but I imagine the areas that have been hit hard with the drought will probably have quite a few lco's go under. Then there are people that have gotten laid off this past year that took their serverence and put it into equipment to start a business that will realize that this is not the business for them. This brings the possibility of equipment with very low hours that people are needing to unload and you may find some good deals through your local paper, ebay, greensheet/thrifty nickel, etc.

Around here, the big dealers have demo days usally in early March and they sell a ton of new equipment at rock bottom prices. I have been told by the owner that we can get mowers for just a few hundred dollars over cost. They also told me that they sold like 75 Z riders in one day last year. Massive sales. I bought my Bobcat then last year and paid $2299 for it, two months later I needed another, and they couldnt go any lower than $2699. I'm serious. So best time I think is in early spring, can still get great financing too from Sheffield and others then. No money down.

Here in Atlanta, I have not seen the huge difference in dealer prices. However, there seems to be a lot of used equipments for sale by individuals . I checked local papers and bargaintraider online, there were quite a few ads for mower and other equipments.

The prices arn't generally discounted at seasons end unless the product line changes drastically, because he just carries the stuff over. Some major man., eXmark included, will be bumping their prices significantly in the spring.

          Buy now.
