  • bid on wild grass

HELLO EVERYONE. I NEED HELP PRICING A JOB. A CUSTOMER ASKED ME TO PRICE A YARD THAT WAS ALMOST AN ACRE. THE GRASS IS KNEE DEEP IN SOME AREAS AND THERE ARE TREES SURROUNDING THE LOT THAT MAY SLOW DOWN THE PROCESS. THIS JOB IS IN THE STATE OF MARYLAND. PLEASE HELP ME IN THIS MATTER. I DO NOT WANT TO SHORT MYSELF. I WOULD ALSO APPRECIATE ANY TIPS ON TACKLING THIS JOB. THANKS.

Tell the customer that you will charge them $xx per hour. That way no matter how long it takes, you are getting paid right.

What type of mower are you planning on using?

I will usually end up renting a bush hog when cutting grass more than 12" deep.. The machine rental will cost about $100 a day...

If trees are close together, you may need something like a DR Field and Brush mower or something similar...

I would quote $125 per hour for bush hog service (2 hour minimum).. Includes removal of grass after cutting...

Personally I would turn the job down. I do not like rough cuts or jobs like you discribed. Too time consuming. If I had to bid, I would bid $70 per man hour. Reason being is that you will probably have to double or triple cut the lawn in order for all of the grass to be cut. When grass is that long, it has a tendancy to mat down on your first pass. When you make your second pass go in the opposite direction in order to hit the grass from a different angle.
