Over Seeding

Got some lawns with bare spots and areas of thinning, should i just over seed in the fall and spring and it should fill in ncely. This is what overseeding is fall correct? Any insite would be helpful...

You are reffering to "spot seeding" (over seeding) is typically either w/ the use of a slit seeder or after a intensive core areate over an entire turf area. If you only have spots you want to improve than id agitate the areas throw in your seed and stie it in @ no more than 1/4 inch. Than cover w/ straw or penn mulch.

Im sorry well cut. I read your post to fast. Sounds like you need a slit seeder set at about 4 lbs per 1000. The areas that are bald,,, you can also drop seed in conjunction w/ the slitter for better results. Fall is a good time to do this.

You may need to check the soils PH to make sure it is where it needs to be. If the soil is off then the new seeds may not stay green for to long. And try to be easy on it with the mower in the spring.

Is the area shady or suuny? If it is shady remove limbs to bring in more light. Shady grass still needs about 4- 6 hours of sun. If you are lucky enough to have crappy rye grass on crappy clay soil... lets just say... curse the contractor who put in the lawn and invest in Round Up and Blue Grass.
