I started out with a Scag WB with a 17hp Kawasaki and sulky. From there I got a Walker MDG (24.5 gas Kubota) with a 48" bagging deck and 54" SD. I demoed a Scag Cougar and found it to be a bit too bouncy. I now have 2 MDG's (still have the Scag as a backup) and will be getting a third Walker in the spring. Peaceturf, I have seen the mowers you are talking about, but if I was to get a push mower, I think I would go with the one that blows bubbles as it might be a bit quieter and whenever I find one on one of my current accounts and throw it out of my way, they are light and seem to hold together pretty well. Such a well built machine.

Homer: It's called a "lawnmower". I invented it. Want one?

Man thats a mower you better find
HA,HA,HA pretty cool

for a 21" walk-behind, nothing beats a toro, especially at mulching. my john deere 21" bags exceptionally nice (grass, leaves it just blows out like crazy) thou only thing its good for. after 4 years, i had to get a new cluctch and 4 new wheels, $200!. my toro's brake on the clutch didnt wear out for 8 years (better bbc design than the jd). the mower is still going after i replaced it, motor does struggle thou and the deck is full of holes !
i like my yazoo/kees 36" controls exceptionally nice. i used a john deere 36" over the summer where i worked, and although it too cut nice, the controls hurt like hell, they were so uncomfortable.
has anybody taken a look at the new jd ztr's yet? now that they put a 27HP motor on the 60" deck, they look pretty nice and the price isnt too bad (they used to have the 25HP on the 60" and i thought it was too small of a motor for the size).

I had one of those things too. Talk about indestructable! I don't think they make them anymore. They must have lasted too long. I also had a tough as nails dump truck, and an awesome backhoe as well. Those were made by Tonka. Not those cheap plastic ones either, I'm talking the steel ones. I had the road grader too.
Funny, those things use to be so much easier to operate.

Woody and Chavez are right
They just don't make things like they used to do. I tried using the bubble mower, but our dog would jump up to try and catch the bubbles and get caught under the deck and suffered many injuries. My first mower could be used on carpet and linoleum as well as grass. But I outgrew the handlebars and it hurt my back to bend over so much. So my dad decided it was time to get out the old reel mower and do our entire lawn on my own to get my .25 cent allowance. Those reel mowers don't shred the rotten apples laying in the back yard so well. You might as well just pick them up and hurl them into the next door neighbor's yard right up until you get busted and spanked. LOL
When I went away to college, my oldest brother was afraid that my Mom would have to cut her own grass, and bought her an electric mower completed with the long extension cord. I ran over it and shredded the cord at least 8 times and learned all about electrical and duct tape.
In all seriousness though, I now own my own business and it is growing. I have saved money and will purchase a new mower in the early part of 2004. I thought I had narrowed it down to a Toro, Scag or Exmark, but there are so many to choose from. The more I study, the more I want to demo the Hustlers, Simplicity, Cub tanks, Wrights, the newer Gravely models, some JD stuff and so on and so forth. I have alot to learn and have time to make an educated choice. Stay tuned for pictures when I finally make up my mind. I'm sure that some of you will be proud of me.

Toro for the smaller 21" and 22" mowers. As far as the larger mowers go, I prefer ExMark. Although I've got a Gravely 60" ZTR that has been through the ringer and came out smelling like a rose. Other than minor stuff I have tore up on it myself, it's probably been the toughest mower we have.
