My favorite so far is the Cub Cadet Tank.

I out grew the popcorn type. The buble type has to be refilled to often.

Had the push reel style then moved to the reel with the motor. It didn't have any recoil type pull rope, you had to rap it around the starter pully for each pull. I just got tired of getting shocked everytime I had to push on the metal plug shorting metal pice to shut the engine off.

          GREAT HOMEOWNER MOWER WAY BACK

When i was very young in the early-mid 70`s i cut many neighbors grass to save money so i could buy my first minibike that was a Honda Z-50. My grandfather gave me a lawnboy and it cut a lot of grass and i still have it today for sentimental reasons. It was almost as light as those toys you guys are jokeing about. The deck is made of alluminum or some alloy of magnesium but regardless with that two stroke it was super light and way ahead of its time. I think it was probably the first mower with a primer bulb so it started on one pull every time. It was a 2 cycle engine but because i was desperately saveing every penny for my minibike and being 12 -13 years old i mixed any oil i could find laying around and i never paid for two stroke oil. I mixed at the proper ratio but that thing ran on anything from old 10w-30 grand union door hinge oil to automatic transmission fluid that my CHEAP stepfather had laying around and even old dirty drain oil after filtering through a paper towel.Talk about a torture test. Lawnboys had integrated cast iron cylinder and head assembly and with the needle bearings on every rotateing part i think bacon grease would have worked if it would have mixed with the gas. .Couldnt kill that thing. Had and has the simplest wheel height adjusters. In the rear there was a slotted lever that adjusted both rear wheels in 3 seconds. I dont think it had a advertised hp but it cut much higher grass then the typical 3.5 briggs and tecumsehs that at that time dominated the market. I would not however in any way buy the new ones for 700$ but for a time they made what i believe was the best and at the time unknown /underated mower. That little mower that could eventually did pay for my Honda 50 and eventually a rideon mower then snowmobile but it was amazeing that it did so on drain oil. Just a sentimental little story that i thought might be interesting. And im not suggesting you guys should start mixing drain oil from your trucks so please dont throw that at me.SINCERELY,KD

I just started my company..... I bought a 36" Bobcat walk behind gear drive. I don't know if i like it better than anything else because I have never owned or run anything else. It seems to be OK! It has a 14hp kawasaki on it.

I also have a 21" 2 cycle toro that was given to me.

Then I have Stihl for all of the trimmers and edgers.

                Trans man,

                Great story..

Reminds me of the mowers i went through..

i have a scar on the back of my leg from a toro ride on i had...

The bolts on the motor were gone so the cover rattled so i ran it without the cover. well one day i turned around and hit my leg on the fan blades.... hmmm. ouch. 25 stitches later. i was ok, no torn ligaments or muscle just flesh..

To this day i remember this, and it stays with me everyday im in business as a remider that I will be married to this for life....

I purchased a Hustler Z this year. Best mower I've had with 13 years in the business. Definitely give them a look.

                        TO CREWCUT

Hey crew. I used to see a lot of people do this with there push mowers expecting them to sieze . I would guess that your talking about an older briggs or tecumseh alluminum kool bore. It always amazed me that people BASH these motors but in the example you described most people who do this dont realize there running the engine with no cooling without the starter/ blower houseing and cooling tin in place. In effect this is somewhat similar to running a car without collent/water . I wonder how hot these would actually get and think i`ll test an old junker and actually see .Pretty amazeing that these cheap junk engines kept running without the air blowing through the cooling fins dont you agree? Just somthing that amazed me as a little kid but still people bash these engine that you can find parts everywhere ,cheap easy to find engines. Just an old observation i never followed up on. Thanks for reminding me about that.SINCERELY,KD OHHH,but i am sorry that you injured yourself on this and glad it was not serious. Just reminded me because i saw so many people run them without the cover. Again, thank god you didnt loose any body parts like a guy on my schoolbus did when he tried to stop his mower by grabbing the blade.SINCERELY,KD

The best mower out there right now is the Ferris ZTR with IS suspension. They cut great and ride even better than they cut. You can ride it all day and you are not even tired when you get off. It will set on hills, that other mowers slide off. It is simply the best bang for your buck. The best pushmower out there for your money is a Snapper self propelled. It has a solid front and rear axle, 5 speed transmission and is excellent for bagging.

I like 2-cycles on 21" , sad to see them fading away. Around 1990 I had a chance to use an Ariens with a Sachs 2 cycle on it. I wish I could find another. Growing up, I mowed our yard with the same vintage mower Trans mentioned. We had a lemon though, it was always hunting for an rpm to run at. Lawn Boys are tough though, I used another(curbside find) for a whole season with a bad rod knock before it gave up the ghost.
