I am new to the forum. I've been reading it for awhile. I started my business up last June 2002. I now have about 12 residential yards and 3 businesses. Steve K. you seem to run a top notch business. I didn't intend on using your business name, however it is a little different and I am way down here in Friendswood, Texas. I'll be back this year working hard again!

I started my business in 2002 after being laid off from Bellsouth. I can truly say it has been the best decision I have ever made. I am located in Bham, Alabama and there seems to be tons of business here. I just found this site the a couple of weeks ago and it is a tremendous help.

      Thanks,

        Welcome to the community Bodean!![]

My actual DBA name is Quality Lawn Care & Landscape Management. Has anyone commented on your name? I get alot of people that say I really give "quality" service, and they say the name is very approiate for my business.

I don't mind that you are using it. Alot of people around here tried to use it (mostly other people in my school, that want to be like me) and I talked to all of them about it and they stopped using my name. I am going to get it trademarked next year, so I can take legal action if anyone tries to use it. You are far enough away, it doesn't matter to me.

        Good Luck with biz!

Oh yes I am back and to stay. I have just been in business for about four months and have made about 10,000, so I am sitting a goal of 35,000 for this years goal. Don't see no reason why I won't acheive my goal.

We started in mid to late season 2002. We did not anticipate having any clients until this April but just the opposite has occured. We have several large commercial clients and 14 residential clients. With this said yes, we are going to be around next year. The question I am presented with is how much money do I commit to equipment for next year? I have too many clients and not enough equipment but am skeptical about investing another 10K.

I'll be back this Spring. Business was good last season and I am looking forward to starting early if Mother nature will let us. I have my new trailer ready and my new Lesco Z two will be a great benefit to me this year.I need to find a reliable helper for Saturdays as I picked up more residential at the end of the Fall but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I started in the fall of 2001...after being laid off. I wasn't really planning on doing much for 2002 except for the few customers I started with in 2001... well, that all changed when I got laid off again in July '02. I was able to increase my customer base and had a great fall clean up season! I picked up 5 mowing accounts with out even trying! I'm definitely back for another season! This has turned into a great business for me.

Good Luck to everyone in 2003!

Been part time for 10 years. Cut during high school and college. Sick of the boring indoor corporate world. Going full time this year and loving it. Doing what i really love.

My 1st year isn't up until may. I started by walking down my street with a old 21" Craftsman and a can of gas. I knocked on doors of people who needed their yards cut. It has not been easy. I have to keep a tight budget. I watched the "pros", noted their technics and equipment. I liked the physical challenge. I partnered with a friend in the business and learned how to be fast. After bills, I purchased suitable equipment. Often scouring pawn shops for gear. I only purchased what I saw the "pros" use [after asking questions] I got lucky in the pawn shops buying a like new Shindawa trimmer for 100. a Stilh br400 blower for 179. ect. A garage sale netted a John Deere 14SC commercial 21" with a kaw. engine for 65. With this gear and word of mouth my client base grew. By preseverance, with my goal being customer satifaction, I recently picked up many new clients this fall and winter doing cleanups and leaf removal the money spent to make a downpayment on a new setup. I got a new 16x6.5 tandem axle trailer with Jungle Jim racks. A Hustler Z mower and another backpack blower. Not bad for the first year. I guess you could say that this what I really want to do for a living. I enjoy it. My advise to anyone is to follow their dream. As for me, I'm in it for a second year. Being a ex sea Captain, cuttin' yards has made my life a WHOLE lot simpler.
