I add sales tax to goods sold. Not services such as mowing or pruning.

I charge sales tax on services. In NY, it does depend on their location, some areas are more than others.

In Iowa, we have to charge sales tax, and sometimes there is a difference as to what school district, city etc. A lot of cities, and or school districts here have 1% option taxes.

There wierd thing is that when the Iowa legislature made up the list of businesses that have to charge sales tax, they put lawn care into the list, but they missed snow removal, so I have to have two separate lists and accounts as to sales tax in the lawn care and snow removal areas.

          Thanks Brad

In WA the sales tax is based on the city where the work is done, and each city seems to have a slightly different rate. Also, we are required to have a city business license for each city where we perform work (in addition to the state license). This is something you might need to look into also.

                  Phillip,

                  I am also in TX.

Yes, you charge tax according to the location the service is performed. Most cities are indeed 8.25%

The Comptrollers office has a web site that will tell you the tax for each location.

We pay our sales taxes to the state based on what we collected each quarter, not what we invoiced. The payment is due on the 20th of the month following each quarter.

The sales tax reporting is supposed to show each city, county etc. so the State can do proper revenue sharing with each city.

A lot of LCOs I have talked to simply report all sales to the city where they do the most work.

                  Hope this helped.

Ohio states u must charge sales tax on service for any residential lawncare
now I am not sure at this point if the city is goign to try and get me or not
when I was an engineer for the railroad they were taking out of my check for a year untill I relaized it and I took it to them and said I do not live in the city and they asked me welll do u drive the train thru the city LOl I was like no and they said well if there a possibilty u could run a train thru it LOL I said not if I can help it needless to say it took awhile but I got them to stop and refund me my money... so My point is do not ask the city tax person ask an accountant or someone cause the city just may say yes anyways
