The trick to getting started is to find some one to give you a try. Probably some one you know or they know, church, boy scouts, chamber etc.

Those good ones come from relationships that have been built in other activity's. Or just find a sucker that wants to hire a cheap contractor and we all know how that one works out.

greenscapes what worked for me is the yellowpages. when i first started this business i was set up to do residential mowing the commercial work just keep falling in my lap. now i run away from any residential work when i started it just seemed like it took to long to build enough residential jobs to make a living.

You are surrounded by commercial everytime you go to the bank, the store or out to eat.... just ask they will let you know if they need you. Leave a card and make a follow up call in a few weeks, let them know you want thier business and show them you have the best interest in mind.
