Another thing is to play on location- my wife actually owns our business(minority owner ) but we are located smack dab in the middle of NY, commonly referred to as the Central New York area, hence Central New York Property Services, or CNY Property Services.

              Works great for us!

Last year we kinda jumped into this thing after spending alot of time together in the hospital with her grandmother. She passed away last spring, and it really got me to hinking about my current situation. We put a lot of thought into it, and decided to make a go of it. We really did not look too much last year into the grants that are available through my state, but this year we are looking at a 500-600% increase in revenues and growth, so we are going to need a few more items than last year. Since we are a minority owned business we are eligible for cetain grants through the state and federal government, and there are some larger corporations in the area that having a minority owned business will help them and help us get the job. This will be our first full year and we are researching now as to exactly what is available to us for grant money. There is just way to much information available on the web from our states homepage that we have to sort through. I would suggest that you start with your state to see what is available to you. Also depending on what work you will be offering, you might be eligible for some work from the state or your local government since they are regulated to have a certain percentage of the subcontracted work done to be completed by minority owned businesses- at least in NY they are- you might be able to get some good paying jobs that way. I am looking to use our position this year to help get some of the higher dollar commercial accounts that are run by nationwide corporations- they seem to like using a company such as myself better- maybe they get a tax break??

Sorry for the long post- I kinda rambled a bt, but wanted to give a little background info, bottom line is grant money, and a leg up on the competition when going after some contracts. My wife helps with the books and works right along side me almost every day- we chose a field that I hadexperience in, and that she was interested in so that we could be together more often. We came to realize last spring how much time I was actually gone from the house with work, and then throw in my time as a volunteer firefighter/EMT, and work with the local ambulance corps, putting me in a high risk area, and it seemed like the right thing to do. So far it is working for us- but we do enjoy our days apart still (usually when I'm plowing, or going out to do bids)

If you call it Dazed&Confused, you will be stuck with old Led Zeppelin heads calling you all the time, albeit to smoke grass, rather than cut it.

                      Names

Well for me when I was choosing a name I wanted to kinda get general so I could ad just about any services thats why we chose ground works so if I wanted to jump into Actual house construction i could do that and never change my name and always showing I am an established company
