When to Start Advertising

This will be my first year to try an all out lawn/landscape maintanance.

I live in central NY, where there is still 3 feet of snow on the ground. Do you guys think it is too early to try and do the door hangers and stuff? Will they think I am nuts and I end up wasting time and money? Or...
Would I be foolish in waiting much longer for fear that the competition will get ahead of me? What do you folks think?

Well I believe this is an iffy one all depends on your goals and where u want to go with it. Myself I started early to try and get my name out there with the belief I probably would not recieve any calls . but my goal is to get my name in peoples heads then I will hit the same areas with other advertising also assuring them that I am legit and will be around. I think it is too early for calls but not to early to advertise so I guess depends on your pocket book

For me, I can start advertising now and I've gotten some work.

Start advertising NOW!!!! I work at a local nursery part time and the landscapers are starting to come in again. I park my Van out front with my logos and customers come in and ask for my card! Ive picked up a few side jobs already.

I put out about 75 flyers today and got one call

My 1" ad is doing me wonders, I just recieved a call to bid on an apartment for 40units!

In my papaer which is very smal only goes to 14,000 on weekend additons I will be adverttising with 3 others on there

Yes, there are many lawn maintenance companies out there advertising with me! about 15 or more..

There is only about 4 - 5 1" display ads, including mine.

I just got invited to bid on a 40 unit complex tmrw, I will be posting the measurements on this site and getting some feedback!

I am very pleased with my 1" display ad, it's brought me a fair amount of calls and estimates along with some work..

You betcha!

I got it posted in the Service Directory under Lawn Care..

Make sure you do a 1" display ad because 3 liners don't work!

There are a lot of 3 line ads, nobody has the time to see or read it!

You gotta put at LEAST a 1" AD so it draws people to it!

but the others in there is like Larrys mowing and Boyce mowing so with a company name I am hoping that helps
