Interesting question... I don't know why it would look bad if you are working out of your home. How many lawn care providers do not?
I'm no expert, but could you tell them your town area and say-- within x miles?

      Alot of People

Yes when I was hadning out my Flyers to all the small offices with lawns just about all asked where I was from. Which was ok they seemed to have wanted to make sure I was a local. But when they asked specifically made me feel kinda funny LOL

Well, I usually tell them something like "we are located in "xville", its a small township near such & such". If they want to a better idea which I wouldn't see why they would tell them your slecific address. They'll have no idea just hearing the address whether its a commercial building or your home. If they want to come look at your house then fine(at least make an effort to keep your own landscape presentable for this reason). After all I'm sure you can get the wife to cut the grass while your out earning the big $$$ LOL If you don't mind me asking why the concern?

Just tell them you operate out of Parkersburg or wherever you living. If they ask,, just say you run an office out of your home. I have an office at my shop and my home. The only differance is,,, my office at the shop is full of fertilizer and spare parts. I havent sat at my desk up there since about october. I started directing all my mail here years ago cause i got tired of having to make a trip out there to get it. A P.O. box was no differant. Now its here when i come in at night. The only thing i hate about a home office is my damn boys. 4-6 and loud as hell. after about the 3rd time i busted em up side the head ,, they quit making noise when i was on the phone. I have a signal ring and ive re located up to the guest room now so i can shut the door. Good thing is ,, if i get a call after hours,, its usually a current customer i know well. So i dont have anything to prove to them. if the kids get into a fight while im talking to them they think its cute usually. Often my cell rings(especially if i forget to turn it off) and ill run out on the screened porch w/ it,, or upstairs. about 95% of us operate out of our house. They know this. If they want fancy offices they can go w/ a big company. Downfall,,, theyll get a secretary when they call there. They call me,,, they get me. Worst case my primarry foreman whom some of them know better than me.

            I need a building!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I work out of my house also, Im currently looking for a shop to move my operation to. The problem is the rent is so freaken high on everything!!! I found the perfect building and Lot for $700.00 a month but a stupid dry cleaners rented ahead of me and is parking the old delv Vans in the fenced in lot.....oh well. I need to move because i live in town and park everything behind and beside my house in the grass, Sucks when it rains. 3 trailors 2 used all the time and 2 trucks, nothing under cover either. Plus my employees park in front of my house and my neighbors house. Then I got to hear from my wife. If any client ever came by they'd get an eyefull alright. I dont give my address out openly, it is on my invoices though.

              oh my

Well i live with my parents but i sure don't tell my customers that! I just tell them i live In Estacaada Oregon across from McIver Park. If they ask more specifically i tell them the name of the horse ranch my parents own and tell them that there are a few family run businesses run from one location. It works well and if they do come by i live in the guest house and i do all of the landscaping (5 acres of landcaped grounds) in exchange for rent and storage space which works out well. They will see a bunch of barns and buldings and have to call me to find where to go (i only use a cell phone for business).
