  • Overseeding has gone to the birds...

    Ok
I have been trying to learn how to overseed by doing it on my own lawns first. I have read a lot about how to properly overseed but nothing mentioned that hundreds of birds will be attacted to my yard. They ate pretty much all of the seed no thanks to our 8 cats and 4 dogs. How do i prevent this? i seeded a second time and put a layer of peatmoss over it but the birds came back and picked through it.. Any suggestions?

Are you sure they got it all? Do you have the temperatures for germination right now? There may still be some in there,, but key to seed is seed to soil contact. Have you considered a slit seeder?

Man you have to areate the ground it will not come up if you don't put it under the ground.Throwing grass seed on top of the soil you will get 5 to 10 percent germinated seeds.

You can throw seed out on a lawn for it to germinate but it definitely helps to cultivate the soil with aeration and use a high phos slow release fert.

Use coated seed it cost a bit more but the birds won't touch it.
