  • Striping Yards ????????

Hey I know alot of you guys out there are striping yards especially up north, I'm thinking about adding a striping kit to my Toro Z's. Do you guys charge more for striping? No one really does it here, mabey at ball fields and such, but not really residential what do you think?????

My mower has striping rollers built into it, so it is pretty hard not to get a stripe. so, no I don't charge for it. Its just part of the deal. However, a lot of my customers have bermuda which doesn't stripe. Everybody with the northern grasses and fescue gets stripes though.

Hi there... I am up north and would like to know about striping... What exactly is it? How much do the kits generally cost? Thanks a lot!

        Stripe kit

        Greenscapes,

A striping kit is an 'add-on' to a mower. Which drags along behind the freshly cut grass making it lay down toward the direction of travel. I don't know how much they cost honestly.
I'll tell you that I do stripe though... without a kit... I use a Walker mower. Leaves a beautiful job & collects the grass at the same time. (It'll take decks that'll mulch & discharge too, but won't leave the stripe that you'll get from collecting the grass) If you've already invested in equipment that takes a stripe kit, then by all means get one, if you want to give your customers lawn an aesthetic appearance - good selling point.

Good luck with your business, and let us know how you fare this season!

Yeah the walkers strip really nice with the ghs deck even with out a kit. Walkers strip so nice because of the vacuum that is created under the deck.

              I had this same question

I use JD's which have no striping kits, but I found a solution. Scag just came out with a great striper kit which lifts up when u don't want to stripe. I called the local Scag dealer and they are mounting it to my Deere's. It is about 300 a pop, but having it optional with every yard makes it worth it to me..

                Phillip Baker:

While I have HEARD that you can stripe warm season grasses, it supposedly only last a few hours. Striping is something more associated with cool season grasses, which stripe very easily. It takes basically a stock comercial mower to stripe up here, while those that claim the ability to stripe on warm season grasses usually have to put forth quite a bit of effort.
