I wouldnt go that far. Its got a little fert in it though. It basically just retains moisture athe same time permits more light in than straw does. Ive always got good results w/ it. I use it more around here than anything else. Great for little jobs but very hard to stay competitive with. Very expensive compared to traditional straw or hydro.

I really like the Penn Mulch. It is much nicer to use than straw. It doesn't blow around or need to have the nylon netting woven through it like the straw. That netting is a pain in the butt when it gets wrapped around you blades and spindles.
I rush in where others flee.

Yes we've used it often. Its great on small patch jobs or where you just don't want the mess of straw or hay blowin' all over your client's or the next door nieghbor's yard.
Results have varied but not due to the product.

whats the best and most effective way to spread penn mulch? yeah by hand works if you are spot seeding but if you are doing 5k sqft, spreading it by shovel and hand is crazy!!

First off, you know this is post is old, right?

Spyker actually makes a spreader for use with Pennmulch. Let me see if I can find my catalog... Nope. Anyhow... Spyker makes a spreader just for it. I've been told you can rent them.

Ok... Here Here is the FAQ for Pennmulch straight from Lebanon Turf.

I know it's old, I did the search for it.
I have heard that many companies make a spreader for penn mulch. I also hear none of them are worth it. I have researched and learned you need a spreader with a 1/2 opening right?
What about purchasing a cheap spreader from a big box store, hacksawing big holes init ans BAM, a penn mulch spreader.
