When I bid on a account I always tell the client how many SqFt I come up with, I'm sure some don't do it but I've never had a Problum as of yet with giving it to them..

If your being honest then telling them is no big deal.

totally honest. I just remember seeing a post in which many didn't like to give sqft out....they wrote it on their copy of an estimate, but left it off the clients copies.

wanted to make sure i wasn't making a booboo.

Thats a HUGE selling point for us is that we base ALL services by the sf of area being treated.

This way when Mrs Jones says "Well you gave Gertrude across the street a price of $40, why is mine $55?" I can simply tell her
"Mrs. Smith has xx m/sf and therefore hers was less based on the ACTUAL sf we serviced. Since your lawn is larger we have to charge accordingly for our services as we bill STRICTLY according to the sf we maintain."

Your only other alternative is to play the numbers game and use the averages for the neighborhoods (which obviously changes - zone to zone).

Then if youre in an area that has mostly 7-8m/sf lawns and a few 10m/sf'ers, you can simply charge them all according to your 9m/sf price. Then if they ask "Well Whats The sf" you can simply reply that you offer this service for "a flat fee of $xx.xx"

I have a spot on my contract for square foot of the area, so I can reference to the contract for the exact size of the property. Make sure your measurements are correct, so if the customer compairs your rate to another company, the sq ft will match up or come close. It really shouldn't be a problem if they know your measurements. I'm sure that they already have a pretty good figure of what their lawn's sq ft is anyway.
