I'm looking at buying an edger and would appreciate your input on the positives and/or negatives to a stick edger and walk behind. Also who makes a good walk behind? I've heard McClane....any opinions?

Stick edgers are more versitile, for a stick edger I would recommend a Echo PE-310. Walk behinds are good also, but if you get a walk behind edger make sure you get the adjustable wheel so you can do curb edging. Out of the two I would recommend a stick edger because of its versitility. If you are looking at a powerful machine with minimal curb usage, I would recommend a walk behind. Personal preference and depending on what you will be using it for should be your determining factors.“veni, vidi, vici.â€

You also will be able to continue charging what you have for the edging service and cut your time by half-2/3 depending on site conditions.

We were discussing this on another forum and we were told that walk behind edgers were for fat home owners lol, and this did seem the general consensus. Now after such a comment we looked into these stick edgers (never seen one used) and apparently they once tried introducing them to Australia but they never took off.
It seems there is a big difference between forums lol [] The new rage in Australia are Atom Edgers http://www.atomindustries.com.au/edgers.html They have a video/infomercial on this site. Not that we use or recommend them!
Now from what I know or can work out from the stick edgers you would need a 3 wheel edger for establishing the edges (especially those really bad ones hehe)
Wow, what an amazing contrast between two forums! I much prefer this feedback lol as we love our wb's lol. For a good edge there is nothing better in my opinion. Stick edgers may be are faster and easier to manoeuvre, but that same argument is used here in Australia for using brushcutter to do edgers and there is no comparison!

I have a little wonder edger 3.5 hp it is great for establishing a edge where on has been neglected or you have bermuda grass. i also have a split shaft shindiwa trimer that i bought a stick edger atchment for for an extra 100.00 i use this for 90% if my edgeing. it is alot easier than using a weed eater to edge. I used my weed eater to edge for two years. now i use my stick edger does a nicer job and less work.we never truly grow as a person or acomplish anything until we step out of our comfort zone.
