  • Muscle cramps

Do you suffer from muscle cramps after a hard days work? What do you find helps with them the most? I make sure I drink as much water and electrolyte drinks as I can but still get them frequently. Even after I'm back in shape from slackin' in the off season. The hands seem to get it the worst after a lot of pruning.

Dr. Criss says to make sure you are getting enough vitamins like potassium, that will help with cramps and charlie horses. Take a one-a-day multi vitamin.

Treat yourself to a weekly 1 hour massage and I guarantee that it's the shortest hour you ever had. I look forward to mine.

            Get good gloves

I use anti-vibration gloves and they help a lot. If you have numbness or cramping in wrist or arms you might want to check with you're Doctor. I'm not in a position to offer medical advise but you may have another problem and need to get it checked out. Maybe you medical pro can offer some other suggestions (specific exercises) to help affected areas. Good luck.

Stretching and a good diet are important. Eating 'on the go' is fine, but make sure it's something halfway decent. If you're gonna be outside mowing for 6+ hours a day you can't get by on Doritos and a couple 2 liters of Mountain Dew. When it comes to hydration stick with water/Gatorade. Pop doesn't quench thirst.

                Bananas.
Loaded w/ potasium, quick, easy to carry in truck, and the peels mulch up nicely in the lawn.

                        Good response

Some real good suggestions here. I think I've tried them all except the pickle juice. I've gotten out of the habbit of a daily multiple, and I'm going to try to return to it. I always felt it helped me deal with stress better. One more thing my wife just read to me this evening from a box of tea was that peppermint is supposed to be good for muscle cramps. A friend told me an old army saying was "take two salt pills and drive on". I do eat well and stay hydrated, but with a fast metabolism, it must be hard to keep enough of the right stuff in the body at all times. Thanks all, and good health to you.
