  • Edging Beds

    Hey guys, quick question.

I sometimes use a bed edging machine, sometimes a border spade to edge beds when doing mulch jobs, landscaping etc.

However, after about a year, the edges become dull again, grass starts creeping in.

Aside from re-edging every year, does anyone have any unique suggestions for keeping the edges uniform?

Ive tried my stick edger with limited success.

Just wondering if anyone has any unique hints.

Every other week, while string trimming, flip the trimmer over and use it to keep the grass from growing in. If you are talking about the edge filling in with soil after a year, by then it is time to re-edge, re-mulch, and re-charge.

Homer: It's called a "lawnmower". I invented it. Want one?

Most bed edgers have a blade for defining the beds. It will cut the edge out and won't disturb as much soil has the first time.

I pull the mulch back and re-spade it a couple times a year. If its good soil and bluegrass, the encroaching grass can usually just be plucked out during policing, a little more often. We had a mild winter here, and I was surprised at how much grass popped up inside the edges by spring.
