  • more new start up questions

    hello,
i went and looked at equipment today and was told to get 48 in walk behind rather than riding mower to start with. I've heard lots of people say "time is money" and was wondering if it would be worth the extra 3500 to get a riding 48 for residentual start up. I looked at the exmark at this one place and the walk behind was roughly 3 thousand with attachments and riding was about 6750 for 48 inch.

would 52 be too big to start off with as far as size and getting in and out gates etc?

thanks for all the input on last post and thanks all that are willing to help and give information.

If your going to get a Z, then anything less than a 52" is wasted money IMHO.

If your just starting out I would recommend a 36" as these machines are more versatile than a 48 and will give you a better chance of acclimating yourself to comm equipment without gouging and scalping the lawns.

I agree with kutnkru, a 36" will fit in just about any size gate, but the 48 will give you some issues. I just started my self and deciede on a 36" exmark and 48" scag, the 36 is great for us newbies.

Talk about starting up fast! Why don't you just get the 36" and relax. How do you know you will want to keep doing this in the future especialy if this is a first time thing. Save that extra $3000 for a nice trailer and the appropriate equipment.

You should have gotten a 52"wb to accompany your 36 that way you have many interchangeable parts ,,, mainly blades (the same for both) which are pulled off and put on twice daily.

well this is what i do and im asuming u have a truck already...I would look around for a good commerical 36 used....you can prolly get one for around a 1000.....buy some ramps and load it in the back of yur pick up.....or spend another grand and buy an open trailer....you wont need anything too big .....so far all you spent at the most is two grand, then go and buy a new commercial trimmer and back pack for maybe another 500 altogether, some trimmer line and two gas cans(one for two cycle one for regular)and that should get u started for under a 3 grand all togetehr.

            Good luck

I'm with KutnKru. But only you know the size of the yards and how many obstacles that a 48 inch mower can work around.
