has anybody done this, with good results? would it improve performance for side discharge mode also?undefined

Mr. yard sloth, the kickers act as under deck build up in thick turf & actually leave less room for clippings to circulate in the Shallow SFS deck...removing them can be beneficial w/mulch kit installed depending on your mowing conditions.

Regardless, Toro now has a new deck to replace the antique SFS called the Turbo Force, currently used only on 500 series Z's, which is the same depth as the eXmark Ultra Cut and also has adjustable baffles for use in discharge mode. This new deck will eventually be phased in on all Toro Z's & Walks.

          Metal Kicker?

Is that the plate on the underside/front of the deck that is screwed on? If I remove it, isn't there a chance I can damage the underside of the deck if I ever (and I never would :O)) hit or run over something? What about jacking up the front end? Isn't that whwere the jack is located when lifting the front end during blade changing?

You can wait for Jack's reply to be sure, But I think you are referring to different parts. The kickers ( at least on their 21's) are on the top surface of the underside. They should cause the grass to be blown back down into the blade for further chopping. Look for something "v" shaped, attached to the top of deck, around the edge of the chambers.

Mr. Hardboiled is correct...on the 21"s they use plastic V shaped kickers on the Mid Size Walks & Z's there are or was Metal V-Shaped kickers installed w/the kit...These kickers may work well in a computer simulation but in real life mowing in Lush Turf they just act as a hinderence for clipping circulation & add to under deck build-up.

Since your dealer did not install or recommend Recycler blades you may also want to ensure that you have the entire mulch kit installed and not simply the discharge block-off plate which some dealers may recommend as a cost saving measure.
