You will do just fine. The 4.3 is a very durable engine and yes, use the tow/haul button when towing. It will increase your transmision line pressure and give you firmer shifts and increase the rpm at which you will shift. It also reduces torque management a little bit as well. A very nice feature!

You have a very good truck for what you are looking to do and it should last you a very long time.

Whoops! Posted to the wrong thread. Take a look at the SBA site anyway.

As Elwood, the local cheerleader for Chevy trucks (LOL!), has stated, it will work fine. I have a 1998 4WD model that is quite similar. The 4.3 does one heck of a good job. After getting the transmission rebuilt, and all 60 or so updates applied to it, the torque converter rebuilt, and fixing the door handle on the drivers side (the door handles are a "known" issue), it has actually been a pretty good truck. Oh, a new fuel pump too (ouch, those are expensive). Like I say though, all in all, a pretty good truck.

You can find Elwood, and his buddies, over at the Full Sized Chevy forums (look close enough, and you might even find me). They are a bunch of good guys, and it is a great place to go to get questions answered, such as.... "how do I replace this darn door handle?". Oh, the door handle was $45.00 new from a dealer (the inside one, whole assembly), and, despite the dealer's parts guy trying to scare me with "it's an all day job", it really only took about 30 minutes to replace.

Oh, if anything does go wrong with the truck, you have to yell at Elwood.

Call me a cheerleader if you like, but I am just very familiar with Chevy trucks. I have owned many and by far my favorite is the current Silverado/Sierra platform!

Woody, they have made some significant changes if the 4L60E transmission from your C/K truck to the current platform. While I have heard of a few failures, personally I think they were from abuse, not use. The door handle issue is non-existant as well, but I think they still use the same fuel pump. Just do your best to not run out of gas, that will kill your fuel pump in a hurry! LOL
