  • Soccer Field Goals?

What grass would hold up to the stress of the goalie back and forth over and over agian?

I have a new client that would like an option for replacing the grass in the goals with a tougher grass. Currently they are total bermuda, in the winter we will plant rye. But does any one know of a grass that would hold up to the wear and tear of a person pacing back and forth for a couple of hrs at a time? And it would have to be Tx heat friendly. The soccer field does have a sprinkler system.

If it only freezes 2-4 times per year, you can try Bahia. O/W bermuda is probably the best for wear.

Buffalograss will wear better than bermuda, but not to the point of withstanding what you're facing. Also, if watered (and especially if fertilized too) the bermuda would move back in (if either were able to survive!).

Isn't Zoysia pretty tough, and a good cushion?

Thanks guys, I'm going to try Buffalo on one goal, and Bahai on the other. Then I guess I can try Zoysia next.....I've never been faced with a wear problem before. This winter the fields go all rye, but it doesn't wear very well in the goals either. Thanks for the input..PB
