  • Toro 21 inch 2 cycle commercial mower

I have several of these machines gathering dust because of blown engines. I used to be able to replace the two cycle engine with a 4 cycle Honda engine with a remodified shaft. The remodified shaft allowed the blade to be at the correct height. The guy providing these engines quit doing it. I like the machines because structurally they are very durable. By the way, they are push mowers. Any ideas?

    A 5 hp 2 cycle Tecumseh with a cast iron sleave 7/8x 3 31/64 shaft with a 5/8-18 threaded end will run you $180.00.

I have owned Toro 21" 2 cycle commercial mowers and used them everyday for over 10 years (I have 4 total). I have had no problem with blown engines. I can go at least 3 years without a problem.
One of the secrets I have found is the proper oil mix and ratio.

In my opinion, Amsoil is the best, (sold by dealers) which is the highest quality synthetic oil mix. You can mix at a rate of 100 to 1 for all two cycle applications. Works great with the trimmers also.

Thanks for the responces. My problem is that I employ people that use them. If the mixture was not that good then you would think that my other two cycle equipment would be going bad also. I must admit that I bought all the machines used and they had probably been abused before I bought them. I didn't pay much for them. Probably about $200 or less for each. Now I am using Hondas. I buy the homeowner types for $370 and they are pretty reliable but small things keep breaking like wheels and handles. That doesn't happen with the Toro commercial. You are probably going to say that I should buy new commercial machines. I can buy three homeowners for one commercial so there is less money tied up in them and also my fear is that they can be stolen from the site, which has happened before.

I would just like to stick a new Honda engine on my old ugly Toros.

          Toro Commercial 2-cycle engine

This is the BEST engine on any commercial mower in my opinion. If any of those "blown" engines could be salvaged I'd do it in a heartbeat. The Toro Commercial "ProLine" Series Suzuki 2-cycle 5.5HP with the large gas tank is lightweight and rugged. Their transmissions last what seems like forever on the self-propelled models, with just minor repairs. The mower itself is light and turns on a dime! The transmission on one of my machines is 12 years old.

If you still own the the same engines let me know if you'd be willing to part with any of them.

I've got a brand new toro suzuki engine block with new carburator and electrical. Name a price.

Keep an eye on ebay for a replacement engine.

It's not really for sale. Bought it for $170 to install on a 21" proline zone start, SP. Got two old decks to choose from. I don't really need another 21"er, I guess I'll just keep one at the house?
