Call your Agricultural Department at your State University and ask them where your county extension office is located. There is an extension office in every county in Iowa.

Here is a link to all state extension services: http://www.reeusda.gov/1700/statepartners/usa.htm . Just click on your state, and you will go to the state extension home page. Most extension home sites will tell you where local offices are, usually one in each county. In some states, even county offices have extensive web sites, with tons of info on turf and plants. Don't limit your browsing to your own state - adjacent states may have good info for you also, since you are in the same environment.

Cooperative extension is a program supported by USDA, and run from state land grant universities. NJ will be Rutgers. They have specialists in dozens of areas relating to turf and landscapes, but you will not get that expertise in the local offices. The local office can give you some general info, and a way to contact the extension specialists. Most specialists are on the staff of the university, are teachers in specific areas, and will be a great help to anyone wishing to learn the real scientific principles of plant care.

If you are looking for info on cool season turf, Purdue has a good bit of documents at http://www.agry.purdue.edu/turf/publicat.htm .
