Penn State Extension offers education and programming in the areas of pest identification and control, pesticide applicator certification, and disease identification and management.

I know that they restructured the tests from the time I was "grandfathered" into the program back in the early 1990's.

But the turf and ornamental exams are still open book but the core is closed book.

If you are not a complete mowron and do your homework you should be able to pass the core and the turf test on the first try.

After a few years experience then take the ornamental exam once you begin to get a clue.

The PA dept. of Ag want to license and insure as many up and comers as possible so they have at least rudimentary knowledge of what they are doing to protect the general public and the environment.

If you put some effort into getting a license the PA Dept of Ag will be your friend and not your enemy if you apply via moonlight.

I just took the core, ornamental, and pesticide test and they were all closed book. Also You have to have two years varifiable experence working for someone who holds a valid pesticide liscense or here in Va you can sign up for a class. I'll bet it is the same in PA.
