  • A useful application quiz

Now that everyone know how to calibrate a spreader. anyone wanna take a crack at a more prescription related case?

The winner of this quiz will get a pat on the back from the DIk heD squad here on this board.

Its May 11th and you receive a call from a concerned home owner regarding a problem in his turf. He breifly describes yellow spots in his turf areas that have caused him problems 2 years and running.

You arrive promptly at the residence and are immediately greeted by Mr.Smith and begin your evaluation of his turf areas.

Right off the rip you identify a Bluegrass blend.

You immediately notice some yellow pale looking 6-12" clusters but upon further inspection you also see individual plants infected.Kinda looks like chlorosis but that would be to easy,,, and whats up w/ the individual plants infected?

You pull a sample to get a face to face look at the culperate. You see yellowed , and somewhat stunted brown plants. Kinda yellow stripes on a few and even black stripes that run the entire length of the plant.

Then you notice the infected areas are growing more upright.

Now you take a look and notice a high level of thatch. Temps have been generally between 55 and 65 degrees and its been a pretty wet season thus far. And actually last year was fairly wet also.

You learn the turf is 7 yrs old and that this problem began last year about this time but seems to be more widespread than it was. The cutomer also informs you that last summer he struggled w/ his lawn no matter how much he watered and no matter what his old applicator did. Says it was just raggy looking and the color was just not there,,, especially in the areas where infection was high. But that it seemed to stop spreading. He says it didnt appear quite this early and wasnt as fast last year but it is more alarming now. Says his applicator last year had a make ship spreader, 17" forearms ,smelled like a hooker and always had some greasy old side kick w/ him that talked to much, Said he had Florida tags on the front of his truck and Pennsylvania tags on the back of his truck,, and his side kick made it a point to show all his license ever time they showed up and would not shut up about all his degrees.

He also shows you a bunch of big rutts where the applicator got his cartoon spreader stuck on the slope and trashed his turf. He asks if you can fix those areas.

Well first of allI would say this customer is in for a world of hurt. He has got caught in the middle of a useless c ock fight with no hope of resolution. However his turf is fixable.

Sounds like stripe smut to me. usually seen by me in TruGreen accouts I take over -- too much N -- at the wrong times. Everything customers and ill-informed applicators do to fix it makes it worse -- more Nitrogen and more water. Food for the fungi.

Spray witha systemic right away. Adjust watering to deeply once per week. DO not let go dormant in summer. Plan on doing overseeding in fall with smut resistant strains of bluegrass and 2 more systemics.

Ruts will be fixed when I do the overseeding in the fall.

The talented musicians have performed at the Grand Ole Opry five times, at New York’s B.B. King’s Blues Club and Grill.

Nearly all the songs on the Bering Strait CD are written by Nashville songwriters. The Bering Strait, the title track on their first CD – a bluegrass instrumental – was nominated for a Grammy for country instrumental performance.

The Ballad of Bering Strait, a documentary of their lives,
screened in New York, Los Angeles and Washington, and on Country Music Television in early 2003. The film tells the story of these Russian musician immigrants’ struggles and hardships as they become successful American country musicians.

Their style of country is much more refined and appeals to the tastes of the Northeast Liberal elite vs. that hokey white socks and blue ribbon beer crap.

Natasha the redhead sings and plays acoustic guitar is quite the tight little animated honey and Lydia the tall blondie that plays keyboards and sings is extremely seductive with a coy style.

The highlight of the show was the encore which was a high energy cover of Peter Gabriel's "Steam".

          Mr. Seascape:
Part #1 (What is your diagnosis?)
I would say the customer needs to be re educated when it comes to checking people out. I recommend that Mr. Smith use common sense & do as 75% or more of the other Green Industry Customers do, use a referral.

To many times we hear people talk a bunch of smack & crap. Licenses, Degrees, Fahrenheits & Bla Bla can be forged on paper & BS'ed... I heard about this guy that lives in a $500,000 home & he makes his money forging papers of all kinds & evidently is good at it.

I suggest giving them (Chemical Applicators) a basic Reading, Writing & Simple Math Quiz to see if they know their Spreader from Root Balls? That should Weed them out fairly quick. I feel sorry for Mr. Smith sounds to me like he was Ripped Off & BS'd...

          Conclusion to Part 1
I would say do not even mess with Mr. Smith because he's in the same boat as the Motley Crew he hired... We need educated Customers & Contractors not Losers?

Conclusion to Part 2 (And what is your prescription?)
Let him Stay as he Lay... Mr. Smith needs Help, but let someone else suffer for his chosen Misfits & Mistakes?

          Hello Mr. Hamons:

Mr. Hamons, I look forward to more of your Post & Replies in this Forum?

          Mr. Lorenzo Piedra:
Yeah, I know2 what you mean, I've "Been Straight" (STR8) all my life...

I personally think Natasha is pretty hot too! I used to like Redheads too, I would probably doo her as I did my wife for about the next 5 to 7 years, then I would want her to dye her hair Blonde... She would doo it too, because she loves me as most other Hot Chicks did, has, done in the Past & in the Future!

Lydia the tall Blonde? I hope you are talking about the 3rd one back from the front left & not the 5th one back from the front left. LOL, "Lydia" the second girl, the 3rd one back from the front left... She's OK, but I have to put my Money on the Good Looking Redhead Female... She's the 1st one going from left to right in the front???
