  • Branch out or leave it alone...

    Here is my situation:

I'm starting my second year of lawn care. I have 15 accounts (14 resi and 1 comm.) but will be adding a football field and baseball field. I have a friend with about 100 accounts who is looking for someone to do fertilizing apps. He can't find anyone trustworthy to do the job right. I have a very basic understanding of fertilizing but nothing official. I know I can service the fields and a neighborhood frontage.

I've read lots of previous posts and I know the dangers and liabilities of doing this. However, this seems like a real opportunity to piggy-back with an established and growing business.

    What do you guys think?

Welcome to the Safety Education Program. We are working to inform people about testing procedures, certificates, workshops, and all the information you need to know about pesticide safety education.

You need to check with your state Ag dept. and the EPA first. This state requires a special license to treat sports fields. You may also have to increase the liability limits on your insurance. Also check to see if your state requires you to be bonded and if so, at what level. On a positive note, you can charge more for that service to recover your expenses.
