  • Any Hydro Growers Here?

I posted this as hydro is new to me and I'm looking for wisdom....

I'm looking into coconut growing medium, VS. rockwool- anybody know about this?

or any other Hydro tips.....I've got a bunch of my own to share as well

Forget the rock wool and do a bare root bubbler. Start with a Peta Pod and then go to a net pod. pH is critical so watch it and Be sure to add lots of Phosphate in the 12 on-off cycle. Happy smoking.

yea, please fill us in! I've been on h2o2 for sometime now and it seems to slow rot, the rot is more like wilt. my drainage is fantastic- via balanced trays....something is hitting these plants and causes a wilt and root mass loss, they kinda brown out of the bottom of the cube
so how about Messenger? any advice?
back to the wilt, it's not about temp as I have several holes cut between rooms and have run duct and fans, my exaust is very strong and my rooms are cool but not too cold, I'm in 18 hour cycle right now

ric, why would I want to go bare root when I grow from clones? I think it would be TOO much shock going into the drink, or are you reefer (ha) to the old school way of constant basin pump with slit trays to hold them?

Anyway, any hydro advice is much listened to...

I will bow to the expertise of Mikey Seatrout for the moment. If he can teach us something, then it will be a first. I am of the old school as you have already stated. Peta pods should allow your clones to take root. I will also agree with Mr. Stone on trying to use Messenger. His expertise in these matter far out weights mine. Messenger has been on the agi Market for a few years and strawberries are very prone to fungus. They are a very sensitive crop. If Messenger works on them, then it should solve you problem.

Well that is the FIRST problem.

You should be 24/7 or 12/12 during the fruiting stage.

BTW my indoor step up is based on the "bubbler".

It's a closed source system using a discarded Lesco Macron 2 1/2 gal plastic bucket with some holes cut in the lid, an air-stone, and a small aquarium pump.

I just love fresh Tarragon when baked with a nice Atlantic Whitefish.

Tarragon, Yes and other fine fine herbs can be grown very nicely in a home hydroponic unit. I am sure Pansy must have quite a few fine herb plants growing from way he describes his set up with multiple rooms and exhaust ventilation.

i've grown for YEARS on 18 on for veg cycle, I tend to pull a pound a bulb- mostly a bit more.....
                        I'm gonna look into Messenger.....
I'd be happy to toss some pics of my operation and see what anyone thinks.....it might make you want to get into the Green Industry...
anyway the plants that get it, whatever "it" is, the white roots turn brown, Richard Butler's nightmare, and the plant seems to have issues with water movement within.....
then they grow out of it, then a few days later again, never the same plants, too... making me crazy!!!

Are all the plants fed from the same hydro solution? Or do you run seperate setups for different groups of plants?

If the plants are seperated into groups, is the affliction affecting only one group, or all of them?

Living in the northwest, there are many spores floating in the air that may be the cause (provided it is being carried in by the air). You may wish to invest in an air filtration system that filters the fresh incoming air through a standard filter, then through an electrostatic unit, and then an ultraviolet sterilizer. This would eliminate the air as a source of pathogens. Along the same lines, a good UV sterilizer could be placed inline to remove pyrogens from the solution as well.

It has been a good 6 or 7 years since I have studied hydroponics as a viable source of food production. I was quite partial to aeroponics myself, since it greatly increases the available oxygen to the roots, and gives a HUGE, healthy root system.

I have devised a way to have a small, self-contained aeroponic unit that should produce astounding results. It can be assembled from readily available materials, and is quite unique in its operation (at least it was when I devised it more than 5 years ago). Utilizing it as a hybrid hydro/aeroculture unit makes it fairly impervious to things like an electrical power loss.

woody, that sound like you know some ag. do you have any pics of this set up?
also each tray has it's own res, and the disease has reared it's head in all trays, when it first set in I drained and bleached the ENTIRE set up, walls and all, ran the venti with bleach mist running through it, I wash hands before each tray, so I think my cultural things I do are ok

again, aeropontics would be new to me- that said, I'm willing to learn

Aeropontics is another term for a Bubbler, only a little more sophisticated.

Sounds like you have knowledge I would like to learn more about. I have never done hydroponics, but would like to try it on a very small scale. Mr. Stone has some experience with Hydroponics, however once again I believe he has only fooled with it on a small scale. I have a local friend who fools with it on a small scale and is fairly knowledgeable. However once again he doesn't do any thing quite the size of Pansy's commercial operation. BTW he doesn't grow the same type of spices that Pansy does either.
