  • Fertilizer for Season Plants & Shrubs

What commercial brand do you guys recommend for fertilizing season plants and shrubs? For example.. Osmacote is good for Sego Palms which is a slow release nitrogen fertilizer. What about Azaleas. Anyone use Nuticote? Anyone use Organic fertilizers which come from natural mineral deposits such as bone, manure, and plant meal... OR Synthetic which is made chemically? Organic is slow releasing fertilizer that doesnt dissolve easily but Synthetic is.... making organic better to be placed during the fall while Synthetic is better placed during Spring.

Azaleas like an acid forming fertilizer. Osmocoat is a little too expensive and too slow release for my Sandy soil. However it might work great in your area's soil. It is hard to tell what to use because we don't know the demands of your area. Check with your local professional suppliers like Lesco for better advice.

Thanks Ric. Just got finsihed talking to a landscape architect on the side of the road by our Galleria area. They are using commercial fertilizer called Micro something. I wrote it down and its in my car. It looks like rabbit droppings and even smelled like it. He said they buy it at a feedstore. hmmmm. They said it works better than Osmacote for season plants.

Glad to of been of help. Don't believe ever thing you read on the net. There are a lot of ego's out there who think they are experts. Weight and research what you read. There are not real correct answers only better ones.

Ric, most definitely! I would rather go by what others who have yrs of professional landscape experience offer. Then i will research and test on my own.
