  • top dressing w/ pre-emergent

A customer of mine needs his front lawn top dressed. There are a few tire tracks where a heavy vehicle rode on his front lawn and he wants it leveled out. I am planning on rolling the lawn to get it as level as possible and then top dress with a some top soil/sand mixture. I also plan to add the proper amount of st. augustine seed in to speed up the recovery process.....my question is: would it be worth the time to add some pre-emergent to the mix?

If you add pre-m to it, chances are very good your seed will not germinate.

JR's got it right. Pre m and seed don't mix.

Homer: It's called a "lawnmower". I invented it. Want one?

If you find St Augustine seed that actually germinates please let me and the rest of the world know about it. It would be a first.

I am not going to ask you if you have license to apply pesticides. From you knowledge base I can tell you either don't or bought it from the local drug store. I would seriously suggest you pass on this job and let a real professional handle it.

Actually, Ric, there is some St A seed, but it has a very very low percentage of pure live seed.

You and I both know why it isn't available......

Like RIC said, it's quite obvious you don't have your chemical applicators license. Leave this one alone. You have no business applying chemicals to somebody elses yard.
