  • Pesticide Certification Classes in Florida

University of Florida is hosting 3 Limited Commercial Landscape Pesticide Certification classes in Florida. You can get a new license or renew the one you have. They book fast so if you're coming call me ASAP. I'll be instructing.

    1. June 18, Panama City (5 seats left)
    2. June 25, Ft. Lauderdale
    3. July 30, Kissimmee

All of these classes are on Sat. from 8 AM to 5 PM and include the state exam. $125 per person (prepaid) for the class + $150 for the exam = $275 total.
Please come. You will love the class. They are fun, interactive, and may prevent you from getting fined just for using Roundup.

              Bob,
Besides Round-up, what chemicals can be applied once this certification is obtained?

I would recommend Bob's class. I have taken one seminar by him and he is a very good teacher.

The Limited License is Limited to Caution labeled products. However 99% of what I spray as a Commercial Licensed operator are Caution labeled products. Let me add that it is not WHAT you spray, but rather WHERE you can treat that makes the different in the limited Licenses. First you can not apply any Pesticides to Turf with a limited License.

I am not up on limited Licenses so I will let Bob fill you in on what I miss-inform you on. The Basic Idea of Limited License is First to allow you to spray herbicides in planting beds only and in fact you can not legally spray parking lots or other area that don't contain plants. this can be be assumed to mean side walk and drive way cracks. However You won't get busted for spraying driveway crack for weeds. Second You can treat all kinds of insect or disease like fungus on plants. Treating of ornamental for insects and disease can be a big selling point for upscale customers. You can even legally spray trees. However the biggest sprayer is limited to a 4 gallon tank that must be hand pumped. The size of the equipment used can really limit your ability to compete with Commercial pesticide companies.

State law allows you to use anything with a CAUTION label, which is easily 85% of the outdoor products. In other words you can use Merit, Organocide, Orthene, Amdro, Ascend (fire ants), Roundup, etc. in weed beds, and on shrubs & ornamentals.
The big drawback is this ticket does not include doing lawns. But... you have to start somewhere.

                      weed bed definition

South Fl. a small area, void of grass but occupied by desirable plants, and undesirable plants "weeds"

Central Fl. a void area containing undesirable, or otherwise noxious plants

North Fl. Panama City, basically, the entire landscape

Southwest MO. lawn, yard, grounds. Nobody knows there is a difference 'round here. AND it all pays the same, a cut is a cut!

Man, I'm glad I didn't have to get my pesticide license in Florida. It was enough work getting it in NY.

hmmm, well does this mean that I can spray the whole landscape with my backpack as your recommendation? Ken R. probably would probably have to laugh at this one(in agreement).

                              Bob,
I know you just came through here, but I was wondering when you'll have us on your schedule again.
